Bishop Feehan Announces Matt Ryan as Head Varsity Girls Golf Coach

Bishop Feehan High School is proud to announce Matt Ryan as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Golf Team. Coach Ryan brings a strong blend of playing experience, coaching knowledge, and educational expertise to the program, along with a deep commitment to developing confident, skilled, and well‑rounded student‑athletes.

For the past three seasons, Coach Ryan has served as the Assistant Coach for the Feehan Girls Varsity Golf Team, helping guide the program through growth and competitive success. During that same span, he has also been the Assistant Coach for the King Philip Boys Golf Team, giving him valuable experience coaching athletes across different styles of play, competitive environments, and developmental stages.

Coach Ryan’s own golf journey began at age ten and he spent his youth playing regularly in competitive junior tournaments throughout the local area. He was a four‑year starter at Attleboro High School before competing at the Division I level for Boston University. After a season at BU, he transferred to Stonehill College, where he continued his academic career while remaining closely connected to the game. His playing background informs his coaching approach, especially his emphasis on fundamentals, course management, and intentional skill development.

As a longtime educator, Coach Ryan brings a teacher’s mindset to the golf course. He has taught for more than twenty years, including the last thirteen at Bishop Feehan, where he also serves as a Student Council advisor. In addition to 9‑hole practice rounds, he plans to incorporate more targeted sessions designed to build specific skills and strengthen players’ confidence in all phases of the game. His goal is to help athletes improve more quickly, more deliberately, and with a clearer sense of purpose.

Looking ahead, Coach Ryan is committed to continuing coaching with the Feehan Girls Golf program. With the talent returning next season, he believes the team has the ability to move beyond Sectionals and compete as a full squad in the State Tournament. His vision centers on accountability, steady growth, and a competitive identity rooted in Feehan’s values.

Coach Ryan lives in Attleboro with his wife Jenn and their two sons, Owen ’26 and Gavin ’29, both proud Shamrocks.
